MonitorIndia : Social sectors - Deaths of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) patients at Gorakhpur’s Baba Raghav Das Medical College, which serves as the only referral hospital for most people in a region racked by the infection, have been between 15% and 29% of all cases over a span of eight years.Data from 2007 till 2014 shows that the case fatality rate has been an average of 21% over eight years, which is not considered alarming for the area. Caused by the Japanese encephalitis virus, scrub typhus or other bacterial, viral or fungal infections, the number of cases of AES has been high for many years now.

MonitorIndia : Agriculture - In order to have a comprehensive database for scientific management of animals and stop cattle smuggling, the government is expected to tag all cows, calves, oxen and bulls in the country with a tamper-proof unique identification number but the move is, so far, restricted to only milk-producing animals in contravention of a Supreme Court order. As on Monday, 85 lakh such animals have been tagged and their information has been uploaded on database.

MonitorIndia : Governance -Only one-fifth of the smart city projects are likely to be completed by 2018 end and that too in the best possible scenario, economic survey-II has projected.The 60 cities, which had been announced before June, have proposed Rs 1.33 crore investment under smart city plans. The survey said 57 projects worth Rs 941 crore have been completed as of April and an estimated additional 462 projects worth Rs 15,307 crore were likely to be completed through 2018 .
